Richest Man in Babylon - Chapter 8 - The Camel Trader of Babylon

Without money, we are unwelcome in many of the places

we want to visit. Everything we do requires money in one form

or another. People will tell you that health is more important than money. But how do you get this health? You need food to eat, which costs money. Medication costs money. Gym membership costs money.

If you jog barefoot in the street, you might step on broken glass,

which will require you to see a doctor who costs money.

My point is, money is important. Without it, life stands still.

With it, possibilities for great living open up.

In The Four Agreements,  Don Miguel Ruiz says you must be impeccable with your word. You must repay all your debts regularly and on time, or there will be hell to pay. I found this out the hard way.

Like I said, I owed over 180K to various lenders.

This may not seem like much to some  of you,

but when you only earn 6K a month,

and repayments amount to 3K a month, that's half your income.

It's totally stressful, almost crippling, believe me.

Debt is degrading, unless it helps you acquire assets

from which you will receive a handsome return.

What Exactly Is the Truth About Money?

We get so many differing views, it is hard to tell exactly who's advice

to follow. The best way I have found is to decide what result you want. Seek the counsel and guidance of someone who demonstrates

the results you want in their everyday living. Model their behavior. Follow their guidance. Investigate how the back end of their business works, and do what they do to build immense wealth.

And in all this, remember to spend less than you earn.

"Where the Determination Is,

the Way Can be Found."

"If a man has within him the soul of a slave,

will he not become one no matter what his birth?
If a man has within him the soul of a free man, will he not become respected and honored in his own city in spite of his misfortune?

Do you have within you the soul of a slave or the soul of a free man?"

Do your results demonstrate that you are a slave or a free man?

What will you do to change your results for the better?

If they're good, what will you do to sustain and grow them?

How bad do you want it?

What are you willing to give up in order to have the results you want?

The heart of a free man solves problems,

while the heart of a slave whines and complains.

How to Get Back on Track Financially

1. Make a list of all the debts you owe.
2. Pay the minimum required monthly on every debt.
3. Pay extra on the lowest debt every month.
4. When the smallest debt is paid off, pay all that money into what was the second smallest debt but has now become the smallest.
5. Continue to do this until all your debts have been paid.
