What Makes the Rich Rich?
This chapter questions the value of what we learn in school.
It argues that school doesn't help us get rich.
School doesn't help us understand money, how to earn it,
keep it and grow it. Instead, school only teaches you
to be an employee, to rely on someone else for your well-being.
Kiyosaki rebels against the idea of being an employee
who works for the rich. He'd rather be rich himself and have other people working for him. Better yet, he'd rather have his money
and his other assets working for him.
He says,
"If you want to be rich,
you need to be a business owner and an investor."
In Chapter 1 of Business School for People Who Like Helping People, we also learn about commercial value
- knowing how to make money from your ideas
- knowing how to turn your ideas into a business,
something we also don't learn in school.
They teach us about Thomas Edison's inventions,
but they don't tell us he started his business
by selling sweets on a train, and then graduating
to have his own team team of boys selling sweets on his behalf,
and eventually going on to establish other more lucrative businesses.
Moral of the story?
Learn to sell!
Learn to build a distribution system for your product/service.
Kiyosaki argues that the system is more important than the product. He quotes his rich dad as having said, "Another word for system is network. If you really want to learn how to be rich, you must begin to know and understand the power found in networks. The richest people in the world build networks. Everyone else is trained to look for work."
You can earn more by building and owning a network than you can by working as an individual. He writes, "If you want to be rich, you need to network with those who are rich or who can help you become rich... and so, a network marketing business is a business with people who are there to help you become richer."
Second Moral of the story?
Make connections with rich folks!
Kiyosaki supports the network marketing industry because
"They are business schools for the people. They teach values not found in traditional business schools, values like, "The best way to become rich is to teach yourself and other people to become business owners,
rather than to teach them to be loyal employees working for the rich."
